Coffee trading is considered of the most enormous businesses in the world after oil. There is even coffee ministry in some of Latin American countries. All around the world coffee is considered as a strategic object while in Iran it is a luxury drink. According the director of coffee association if this industry develop in Iran it could be as profitable as oil sale and it could be a convenient alternative item till next 10 years.
Zaafari (the member of educational Commission of juicers and coffee shop keepers union and also university professor) pointing to that there isn’t any coffee producing factory in Iran, declare: coffee is growing in tropical regions like Jamaica, Java, Brazil, Columbia, India and…, and be imported to Iran in the form of beans. This beans after importing, got roasted and packaged in Iran. So as you see Iran has no activity in producing coffee by itself, even the roasting and packaging system done in food factories are so basic and unprofessionally and there isn’t any expiring date on them.
Currently there are eight companies working basically and totally traditionally on roasting coffees. It isn’t logically true that Iran is the biggest Coffee producer in Middle East and exports it to 11 countries because potentially it is impossible.
The member of educational commission of juicers and coffee shop keepers union, about the quality of processed coffees in Iran said: the existing coffee in our country doesn’t have desired quality for daily consumption. It is almost many years which coffee is imported like a kind of spice from India, Java and Indonesia to Iran. It isn’t true that our available coffee in the Market Is from Brazil. Importing from Brazil is not efficient and possible because of the far distance.
Zaafari mentioned that only 20% of current Coffee in market of Iran are included the imported coffees, the rests are internal processed coffees. According the statistics of 1394 the daily consumption of coffee in Tehran in cafes, restaurants and hotels is two tones. Also Isfahan and Shiraz each has one tone consumption per mount, and the rest cities of Iran totally one tone per mount.
The brands which are smuggling to Iran also cause problems in the Market. We are frequently witness that even after the expiring date of this goods they still are sold in stores. For example the present kinds of American coffees in Market are expired which venders change the date and sell them again. Iran has no commercial relationship with America which could create the possibility of importing coffee legally, so this kind of coffees are smuggled and there isn’t any control on their quality and wellness.
